NTU launched the “Exploratory Credits Program,” motivating students to actively engage in interdisciplinary learning and opening doors to personal development.
In recent years, NTU has been actively promoting the project of “Future NTU 2.0” to establish a diverse interdisciplinary learning environment. In order to encourage students to venture into cross-disciplinary learning, set aside concerns about grades, and explore their own potential, NTU has launched a new initiative called the “Exploratory Credits Program.” The implementation guidelines for this program were approved during the academic affairs meeting on June 2. Starting from the 112th academic year, undergraduate freshmen and sophomores will have the option to designate certain courses outside of their major as exploratory credits, for a maximum total of six credits, in cases where they did not achieve the expected results in those courses.
The “Exploratory Credits” system operates on a retrospective application basis, allowing students to apply during the first week of the following semester after the completion of the final exams. Subjects in which the student originally achieved a passing grade (C- or above) will be recognized as exploratory credits. The grade assessment will be modified to "Pass," and although credits will still be awarded, the original grade will not be displayed on the transcript and will not be included in the GPA calculation. For subjects in which the student originally failed, the transcript will not show any record of the course once it has been recognized as an exploratory credit.
NTU encourages students to take advantage of the flexible Exploratory Credits Program, allowing them to boldly explore and break through on their learning journey. This program provides a diverse and expansive approach for students to advance towards their goals of self-fulfillment.
