President Wen-Chang Chen received an honorary degree from UGA, committing to a strengthened partnership

At 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2023, NTU President Wen-Chang Chen received the Doctor Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate Degree) from Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) at a conferral ceremony. He also joined UGA President Yassine Lakhnech in signing the agreement to strengthen the strategic partnership and extend the student exchange program between NTU and UGA.

This honorary degree was an acknowledgment of President Chen’s academic excellence. It also indicated that NTU’s research capacity is respected worldwide while strengthening Taiwan’s ties with the French academic community. Dr. Chih-chung Wu and Ms. Mei-Chen Lu, who serve as the Representative of the Taipei Representative Office in France and the Director of its Education Division, respectively, came in specifically from Paris to observe this ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, President Chen mentioned the project he undertook with Dr. Borsali, “Carbohydrate material-based electronics toward a substantial future.” President Chen spoke about his research work with Dr. Borsali over the years and extended his appreciation to UGA for their friendship and support.

UGA has long been a key partner school to NTU. Through this new agreement, both schools committed to furthering their exchanges in academic and research activities. It would lead to new opportunities for scholarly discourses and pathways to engage more academic counterparts.

President Chen emphasized the role this honorary degree and UGA agreement played in NTU’s path toward internationalization. It would make NTU more influential internationally and provide students with more opportunities for cross-border academic collaborations.
