The “2022 CommonWealth University Citizen (USR) Rankings” by CommonWealth Magazine hosted an award ceremony on September 8. NTU ranked Top 1 in the national public university category for three consecutive years. The CommonWealth University Citizen (USR) Rankings survey ranks universities using 38 indicators, such as university governance, teaching commitment, social participation, and environmental sustainability, to evaluate the actions a university has taken in practicing social responsibility (USR) and the efforts made to achieve sustainable development goals.
Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou accepted the award on behalf of NTU. She said that it is a great honor and encouragement for NTU to win the first place in the fierce competition for three consecutive years. It is also the driving force behind NTU’s continuous efforts. NTU has accomplished many research innovations on ESG issues in recent years. Jointly developing a solar-powered water recycling system with Delta Electronic Foundation, NTU helped solve the problem of lack of clean water sources in Tuvalu. At the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), the collaborative results between NTU and Tuvalu were presented at the National Exhibition Hall of Tuvalu, demonstrating Taiwan's contribution to the international community as a global citizen.
Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou stated that net zero emissions has become the common goal shared globally, and higher education is the key to achieve this goal. Shouldering the unshirkable responsibility, NTU has announced that it aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2048. NTU will continue to exert the influence of knowledge and work with society to jointly promote low-carbon transformation, practice social responsibility, and move towards a sustainable future.
