NTU Reaches Out to Eastern Europe: Partnerships Established in Slovenia

NTU is reaching out to seek higher education partners in Eastern Europe. President Chung-Ming Kuan (管中閔) led a delegation of eight to Slovenia on September 10-11, 2019. While in Slovenia, the delegation visited Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) and the University of Ljubljana (UL), two of the most prestigious and established academic institutes in the country, to sign MOUs and collaborative agreements.

The trip was joined by Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou (周家蓓); Prof. Chi-Sheng Shih (施吉昇), Chair of the Graduate Institute of Networking and Multimedia; Prof. Keh-Chyuan Tsai (蔡克銓), former Director of National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering; Prof. Jung-Kai Chen (陳榮凱), former Chair of the Department of Mathematics; and two staff members of the Office of International Affairs.

During a visit to ZAG and UL in early April, NTU had reached consensuses with the two institutes on the directions and focuses of future academic collaboration after detailed planning and discussion. This time, besides signing MOUs and student exchange agreements, NTU and UL have also worked out four potential fields for future research collaboration. The cooperation with ZAG will focus on seismic studies, particularly the analysis of the earthquake-resistance of bridges and buildings—a field in which both NTU and ZAG share common interest and have demonstrated excellent scholarship. NTU expects to select and send students and research fellows to the two institutes for exchange and learning activities in 2020.
