During July 16-19, NTU Press attended the 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) hosted by Leiden University, The Netherlands, showcasing its publications on a variety of fields, including Taiwan studies, history, literature, and popular science, to participating scholars from around the world. This was the first time NTU Press participated in the ICAS. This event offered an opportunity for scholars worldwide to exchange and share their views, as well as for NTU Press to display the university’s publications and research outcomes.
Two books published by NTU Press, namely, Transforming “Sacred Religion” into Daoism: Festival, Belief, and Culture in the Chinese Society of Malaysia by Dr. Fong-Mao Lee (李豐楙) and From “Honoring the Ming” to “Submitting to the Qing”: The Transformation of Chosŏn Korea’s Attitude towards Qing China, 1627-1910 by Wei-Guo Sun (孫衛國), were shortlisted for the ICAS Book Prize 2019 – Chinese Language Edition. At the opening ceremony of ICAS, the organizer announced Transforming “Sacred Religion” to Daoism to be the winner of the prize. This honor recognized the author’s dedication to academic research, as well as encouraged NTU Press to push forward with its efforts in publishing high-quality academic books. NTU Press hopes the winning of this award would attract the attention of scholars worldwide, draw contributions from the international academia, and further advance its professionalism in academic publishing.
