Dr. Chung-Ming Kuan (管中閔), Distinguished Professor of Finance at NTU and Academician of Academia Sinica, took up the post as NTU’s 12th president on January 8. The ceremony was overseen by the Ministry of Education (MOE)’s Administrative Deputy Minister, Mr. Teng-Chiao Lin (林騰蛟).
In his inauguration speech, President Chung-Ming Kuan put forward “internationalization” and “university transformation” as the two primary directions of development for NTU, envisioning an even brighter future for the next decade.
President Kuan vowed to build wider and deeper international connections to boost NTU’s competitive edge in the higher education market of both Asia and the world. While expanding NTU’s international outreach, President Kuan recognized the tremendous impact of informatics and creative thinking on our lives, and considered a major transformation to university education urgent and necessary.
Under these two guiding directions, President Kuan will lead NTU to explore the many possibilities of future education and cultivate a fertile ground for quality teaching, research, and learning.
While expressing heartfelt appreciation to all the people who have helped NTU weather the challenges in 2018, the incoming president pledged to dedicate all his knowledge, experience, and efforts to creating sustainable momentum and brighter prospects for NTU, like all the previous presidents did.
In the end of his inauguration speech, President Kuan cited US President Lyndon B. Johnson’s words, “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or to lose,” to reassert his commitment to opening up new grounds for the development of NTU.
