In 2017, Dr. Hsin-Yi Wang (王馨儀) at NTU Hospital Yunlin Branch led an overseas medical team to Burkina Faso in West Africa—one of the most underserved countries in the world. Born in the 1980s, Dr. Wang became Taiwan’s youngest female medical team leader on a mission abroad. Wang and her team’s observations and experiences in Burkina Faso are now described and presented in a book titled, On a Medical Road to West Africa (literally translated from the original title “醫路向西非”), published on October 12 by Global Views–Commonwealth Publishing Group.
In a country severely lacking in medical resources, Dr. Wang was confronted with the real, urgent medical needs of local people, which even a doctor with unabated enthusiasm may sometimes fail to satisfy. In moments between life and death, one stats to reflect on the true value of being a physician…
