NTU Executive Vice President for Administrative Affairs Ching-Ray Chang (張慶瑞) was invited to witness the inauguration of Prof. Rocky S. Tuan (段崇智) as the 8th Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on April 17. Since establishing partnership in 1995, NTU and CUHK have initiated student exchange and short-term programs, as well as collaborative research in various fields ranging from science, social sciences, medicine, law, public health, management, music, population, and gender. Of NTU’s 10 partner universities in Hong Kong, CUHK is the one engaged in the most extensive and in-depth collaboration with NTU.
CUHK will become a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) in June. Three years ago, NTU sought and secured the opportunity to host the 2018 APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting, which will be held in Taiwan for the first time on June 24–26. During his visit, Executive Vice President Chang extended an invitation to Vice Chancellor and President Tuan to join presidents and delegates from more than 20 world-leading universities to attend the presidents’ meeting at NTU. These universities include the University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, University of British Columbia, Australian National University, National University of Singapore, and Yonsei University.
Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, a world-renowned biomedical scholar specializing in musculoskeletal biology and tissue regeneration, took office as the 8th Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK on January 1, 2018. At the inauguration ceremony on April 17, Executive Vice President Chang joined the other invited guests and delegates to witness the inauguration in full academic dress. On the basis of the past 20 years of partnership, NTU and CUHK will continue the existing cooperative projects while seeking to conduct cross-disciplinary research in medical engineering, social sciences, and management. Meanwhile, both universities will focus on leveraging their international strategic partnership to address forward-looking research topics together.
