Founded in 1997, the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) commemorated its 20th anniversary this year with a series of speeches and activities at the International Conference Hall of the Astronomy Mathematics Building in NTU on August 1.
NCTS has been committed to theoretical science research and talent development in the past two decades. Every year, NCTS hosts a variety of speeches, courses, and conferences, inviting nearly 400 scholars to visit Taiwan. The mission of NCTS is to facilitate academic exchange and research collaboration, attract outstanding mathematicians around the globe to join its team, and become one of the best mathematics institutes in the Asia-Pacific region.
NCTS has become a crucial international platform for mathematics research. For this occasion, President of the International Mathematical Union, Prof. Shigefumi Mori (森 重文), sent his congratulations to NTCS. World-renowned mathematicians, Academician and Harvard Prof. Shing-Tung Yau (邱成桐) and American Mathematical Society President and UC Berkeley Prof. Ken Ribet, were invited to give keynote speeches at the anniversary ceremony. The center also played a video showing the important events and moments of NTCS under the leadership of Former Director and Academician Jing Yu (于靖) and introducing its 20 years of outstanding achievements.
